Course Requirements

CIS 1100 or equivalent (basic Python proficiency) is required for this course. Additional exposure to coding (reading documentation) is beneficial. You will need to have access to Google Colab Pro, which is free for all students with .edu email verification.

Grading

Grades will be 45% homeworks, 45% final project, and 10% participation. Participation will be judged by attendance and engagement in class activities.

Course Policies

It is expected that assignments, unless explicitly stated, are completed individually. Use of AI tools is permitted for coding tasks, provided that you do not plagiarize and that you fully understand, can explain, and take responsibility for any code you submit. AI assistance is NOT allowed for written short-answer questions. Assignments are due at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. Each student is allotted 3 late days that may be used at their discretion across the semester; beyond this allowance, late work will not be accepted without prior approval. Students are also expected to uphold a respectful, inclusive, and professional classroom environment, demonstrating support for their peers and contributing positively to the learning community.

Disability Services

The University of Pennsylvania ensures equal access to its educational programs for all students. If you require accommodations for a disability or medical condition, please apply through the Weingarten Center portal. Disability Services reviews requests on a case-by-case basis through a collaborative process that includes reviewing your documentation and meeting with you personally. Once approved, you are advised to provide your accommodation letters to your instructors at the beginning of the semester. For assistance, contact Disability Services at 215-573-9235.
